It’s anything else than tourism: The champagne of the Hockenheim race is hardly spilled, when the teams of the Supercup pack their things again with full throttle – they have to travel to Budapest. The championship rounds seven and eight take place within only seven days. “For our team it wouldn’t have been worthwhile, to go back to go back to our home base at Lohne after Hockenheim and then being right away back on the highway heading for Hungary”, says tolimit team manager Jörg Michaelis taking a look at his traveling documents. "We pack up just quite relaxed now and start our journey to Budapest on Monday”, he explains on Sunday evening in the Paddock of Hockenheim. On the spot in Budapest they want to fix all damages and prepare the cars for the next race. "It looks worse than it really is", says Michaelis. “Though all three cars are affected, there is no serious damage”, is the result of his examination. “The complete team will move to Hungary via the highway. No one will go by plane”, the team boss grins. “By the way, we courtly call that collective journey a team building-process."
Schnabl-Engineering team manager Sven Schnabl sees the situation completely eased. “That’s daily business for us as well as for other teams who compete in the Supercup as well as in the German Carerra Cup”, he laughs in Hockenheim before he climbs into the Porsche Cayenne and drives home to Butzbach. "The team truck will follow right away and arrive in our workshop still tonight." The cars are revised, prepared and than packed into the lorry again until Tuesday 14.00pm. On Wednesday about 14.00pm truck-driver Jens Quack with the 40-tonner will be on the highway, driving the 1000 kilometres to Budapest. “And at the same time we helped Stuart Parker and Tim Bridgman”, says Sven Schnabl. “Because of the brevity of the time they didn’t go back to England, but stayed in Butzbach and prepared the Bridgman Carrrera.”
On Thursday afternoon in Budapest everything looks like always again. The truck is in the paddock, the eighth round of the year can be started. -sn |
